In fact, it would be weird if we heard of someone on stage or on the field who didn’t have one.</span></p><p style="color: #222222;"><span style="font-family: arial;">And yet, in the world of business, they’re seen as the exception.</span></p><p style="color: #222222;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Part of the reason is that work feels like an extension of something we’ve been doing our whole lives. Figure skating isn’t like school, but showing up at work seems to be. “I’ve got this,” is a badge of honor.</span></p><p style="color: #222222;"><span style="font-family: arial;">And part of the reason is that a few coaches have made claims that stretch belief, and we’re not actually sure what they do. It doesn’t help that there’s no easy way to identify what sort of coach we need or what we’re going to get…</span></p><p style="color: #222222;"><span style="font-family: arial;">It turns out that the people with the potential to benefit the most from a coach are often the most hesitant precisely because of what coaching involves.</span></p><p style="color: #222222;"><span style="font-family: arial;">Talking about our challenges. Setting goals. Acknowledging that we can get better. Eagerly seeking responsibility…</span></p><p style="color: #222222;"><span style="font-family: arial;">And yet we avert our eyes and hesitate. It might be because having a coach might be interpreted as a sign of weakness. And what if we acknowledge our challenges but fail to overcome them? It could be that we don’t want to cause change to happen, or that we’re worried that we will.</span></p><p style="color: #222222;"><span style="font-family: arial;">One company I admire believes in coaches so much that they’ve put several on staff, ensuring that their leadership all benefit from one. But mostly, it’s something we have to pay for ourselves.</span></p><p style="color: #222222;"><span style="font-family: arial;">And so, paying for a coach, for something that’s hard to measure, which might be socially awkward, to get better at something that feels normal—combine that with a hesitancy to ask for help—it’s a wonder anyone has a coach.</span></p><p style="color: #222222;"><span style="font-family: arial;">The paradox is that the very things that hold us back are the reasons we need a coach in the first place.</span></p><p style="color: #222222;"><span style="font-family: arial;">If you need help in GMAT.. To score high, you need to remember various formulas, theorems. Also you need to master critical problem-solving skills.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-IN"><span style="font-family: arial;">Today I am going to take you through one problem -solving skill –<o:p></o:p></span></span></p><div><span lang="EN-IN"><span style="font-family: arial;"><h2 style="text-align: left;"><span lang="EN-IN" style="line-height: 15.6933px;"><b><span style="color: red; font-family: arial; font-size: large;">Counting skills</span></b></span></h2><h2><span lang="EN-IN" style="font-family: arial; font-size: 11pt;">Take this </span><span style="font-family: arial; font-size: 11pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">problem .</span></h2><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwAYxHOyPpoosh19YFikCWhn_KJeZdW-tXRUONptKUlIr4B2x8ptaCIVQ8gJqOsf44QCcxuSLjw8kmk1c4UqKRP8wY2eY3X-yU0UcHzo3rgecWLKndBugXNkMeL9Pa27Hreo6qwAMjC-c/s2048/4444.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1172" data-original-width="2048" height="229" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwAYxHOyPpoosh19YFikCWhn_KJeZdW-tXRUONptKUlIr4B2x8ptaCIVQ8gJqOsf44QCcxuSLjw8kmk1c4UqKRP8wY2eY3X-yU0UcHzo3rgecWLKndBugXNkMeL9Pa27Hreo6qwAMjC-c/w400-h229/4444.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><p class="MsoNormal">This sum requires higher order thinking<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p>Lets say, you didn’t know

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4fFsYk909627gf3P_TlRMGN642-EtkusEavkhej018bm4DXjj9m9x7h2KS9qPLAyn8Nc5PTpJv7i9zLj7bJADirS9iP3W3Re4-lESrza7tOtLdIfGGIJUo2qHnHx2TwZbQwS0J014Am0/s420/22.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="184" data-original-width="420" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4fFsYk909627gf3P_TlRMGN642-EtkusEavkhej018bm4DXjj9m9x7h2KS9qPLAyn8Nc5PTpJv7i9zLj7bJADirS9iP3W3Re4-lESrza7tOtLdIfGGIJUo2qHnHx2TwZbQwS0J014Am0/s320/22.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>First focus on the 8x8 grid...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /><p class="MsoNormal">Take the smallest unit of chessboard. <p class="MsoNormal">How many rectangles can you count?<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">All the squares are rectangles too.</p><p class="MsoNormal">First count squares there
are 5 <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">How many rectangles can you count? There are 4.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In total there are 9 . </p><p class="MsoNormal">If you observe........ 9 = 1+8<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p>these numbers follow the cube series</o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Now take a 3x3 grid<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">How many rectangles can you count?<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">First count squares there
are 14<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Always remember </p><p class="MsoNormal">the number of rectangles in a grid follow
the cubic series 13 23 …33…<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">So in a chess board.. the number of rectangles is the sum of the cubes from 13 to 83<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> Hence </o:p>13 +23 + 33+43 +53

<p class="MsoNormal"><br /></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">All squares are rectangles. So you need to count the squares
also.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><br /></p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4MSyu82Inep5u1JuVoOzVnzluSvyd5X5bLQzLY04w1yYkky-yTPcIH7ug6uDIweNQlRRXdPdFmF-6sTLCU8GkD_BGZxb0M1ZVjYU-YUIGUQL5a2Cv6Y1dzdL5WjIHq3tuURwUxdClWFM/s890/11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="512" data-original-width="890" height="230" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4MSyu82Inep5u1JuVoOzVnzluSvyd5X5bLQzLY04w1yYkky-yTPcIH7ug6uDIweNQlRRXdPdFmF-6sTLCU8GkD_BGZxb0M1ZVjYU-YUIGUQL5a2Cv6Y1dzdL5WjIHq3tuURwUxdClWFM/w400-h230/11.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /> <p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Okay.. First look at the gird.. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Can you observe the number of horizontal lines? There are 9
lines<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Similarly <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Can you observe the number of vertical lines? There are 9
lines<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">If you observe… to draw a rectangle. You need to select two
horizontal lines and two vertical lines.<o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal"><br /></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The point of intersection of these lines form a rectangle.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><br /></p><p class="MsoNormal">So how do we choose two lines out of 9. </p><p class="MsoNormal">Use combination.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">To select 2 horizontal lines = <o:p></o:p>9C2</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">To select 2 vertical lines = <o:p></o:p>9C2</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Now as per the rules of counting…you need to multiply <o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p><p class="MsoNormal">9C2 x 9C2 = ((9x8)/ (1x2) ) x ((9x8)/ (1x2) ) = 1296</p><p class="MsoNormal"><o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">There are 1296 rectangles in a chessboard.<o:p></o:p></p>

Reinforce the 25 sentence correction concepts.</span></span></h2><div><span style="font-family: arial;"> </span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;">The verbal section is the toughest section in the test. This section induces undue strain on the test taker. Besides this section is concept intensive unlike any other aptitude test.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;">Besides, each question type is long sentence or paragraph based requiring extensive reading of verbal information.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;">Let us take a closer look</span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;">The sentence correction questions (12/13) of them tests correctness and effectiveness of expression. You have to choose the option that conforms to standard written English; you have to pay attention to grammar, syntactical constructions, diction, clarity and semantic conformity.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;">Since GMAT is a standardized test and each question is pre tested on a test taking population we can predict and hence prepare for the test. One can go prepared for the exam with 100 percent conceptual clarity. Moreover if the test taker knows what exactly GMAT tests he can streamline and learn only those selected topics – be it verbal or math.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;"> </span></div><h2 style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: red; font-family: arial;">4. Internalize the tactics for critical reasoning question types</span></h2><div><br /></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;">Critical reasoning tests one’s ability to discern verbal data and draw inferences, conclusions and underlying assumptions from them. Besides, it also tests one’s skill in evaluating the logic of arguments. Interestingly GMAT has been designed for a 25+ age group and hence, those who are younger need to put in much more time in preparation than those in the 25+ age group. CR necessitates wide reading of and knowledge in subjects as varied as economics, sciences, research, humanities and the like.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;"> </span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;">Critical reasoning is one scoring area where you can maximize your performance.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;">In this section you are given a short paragraph, an argument, followed by one or occasionally two questions. You must analyse the argument, understand the given data and answer the question that follow.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;">In our analysis of critical reasoning testing over a decade we have derived the following insights into the area.</span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;"> </span></div><div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li><span style="font-family: arial;">That one needs to know the basics of formal logic.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: arial;">That there is a whole domain of knowledge that can be applied to this area of testing</span></li><li><span style="font-family: arial;">That it is possible to derive generalizable and transferable tactics to solve each of the question</span></li><li><span style="font-family: arial;">That it is possible to anticipate question types in the actual test.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: arial;">That it is possible to use principles of test construction to gauge the difficulty level of a question</span></li><li><span style="font-family: arial;">That reasoning is like math in which you can hit 100%.accuracy</span></li><li><span style="font-family: arial;">That transfer of learning happens when each tactic is reinforced through practice.</span></li><li><span style="font-family: arial;">That the question types require varied pacing, enabling one to ensure accuracy in high weightage questions</span></li></ul></div><div><br /></div><h2 style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: red; font-family: arial;">5. Maximize practice on data sufficiency questions</span></h2><div><br /></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;">Data Sufficiency is designed to measure your ability to:</span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;">1. Analyze a quantitative problem</span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;"><br /></span></div><div><span style="font-family: arial;">2.
